A. ABLE to Save (Hebrews 7:22-25) “By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”
1. Saving soul, same power as saving from fire
2. Only save those that come to Him (John 6:44-45) “No man can come unto me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard and hath learned of the Father cometh unto me.” (John 14:6) “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
3. God CALLS (1 Peter 5:10) “But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered awhile, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.”
a. THROUGH the Gospel (2 Thessalonians 2:13-15)
B. The “foolishness” of preaching (1 Corinthians 1:18-21)
B. ABLE to KEEP us Saved
1. (Jude 24) “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.”
a. HOW? → (1 Peter 1:5) “Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
b. By OBEDIENT Faith (2 Peter 1:4-11)
c. CAN Fall (Galatians 5:4) “Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law: ye are fallen from grace.” (Hebrews 3:12-13) “Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.”
d. Willful sin = NO sacrifice (Hebrews 10:26-29)
A. Abraham offered Isaac (Hebrews 11:17-19) “By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son. Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy see be called: Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.”
B. Jesus could not do work → Unbelief (Mark 6:1-6)
